Since 2007, the Australian Chinese General Chamber of Business have been committed to
preserving and restoring Australian historically significant Chinese artifacts in Northern and Central
Queensland- locations of the state's earliest Chinese settlements.
|
Coinciding with the preservation and restoration, ACGCB have also been dedicated to promoting
and educating the general public in partnership with the Australian Chinese Museum, Queensland
Museum and local historical societies of the significant contribution early Chinese pioneers had
made to the development of Australia.
|
In 2007, the Australian Chinese General Chamber of Business successfully lobbied the QLD
government and the Rockhampton City Council for $23,000 to restore Queensland's only Chinese
Community Centre, built in 1965 and currently housing early 20th century artifacts. |
 |
While in 2008, ACGCB funded a DVD documentary project worth $4,700 to bring to light the 19th
century Chinese artifacts kept in private storage by the Cairns & District Chinese Association, in
Northern Queensland. The DVD also tell the untold personal stories by descendants of early
Chinese pioneering families in the area. |
In mid 2009, the Australian Chinese General Chamber of Business signed an exclusive partnership
agreement with the Australian Chinese Museum to solely represent Queensland with collecting
historical information and photographs for the museum's Queensland exhibition wing. This will be
housed in the newly renovated $1.2 million museum building, at the heart of Melbourne's China
Town. |
