Joint Task Force Committee
| In 2008, a committee comprising of senior members from the Australian Workers
Union (AWU); Australian Chinese General Chamber of Business (ACGCB);
Department of Immigration [Liaison Role]; QLD Police Liaison Officers (QPS);
People Resourcing (PR) and University Chinese Students Associations has established
a joint working committee that geographically cover the whole of QLD for the
purpose of tackling growing social and criminal abuse of foreign workers on a Visa
457 by migration agents and employers. |
| The committee is responsible for the following: |
- Gather and share vital intelligence on illegal industrial relations and criminal activities conducted by migration agents and employers relating to foreign workers on a Visa 457 workers.
- The committee is committed to assisting Visa 457 workers who have been
retrenched or are employed in unfair / illegal industrial circumstances to find new employment.
- Assist Visa 457 workers to recover illegally withheld wages.
- Assist Visa 457 workers with making a police statement for criminal investigation to occur, in circumstances where employers / migrant agents have breached the criminal code.
- The committee is responsible as a watch dog to monitor and assess industrial relations and related criminal matters for Visa 457 cases.
